Welcome

Idaho Wild Rivers License Plate

Show your support of Idaho whitewater by ordering the “Idaho Wild Rivers” specialty plate for your automobile. A portion of each plate’s registration money will go to funding whitewater access, education and safety programs throughout the state. Another portion will go towards the promotion of Idaho as the Whitewater State. Every county assessor’s office in Idaho, as well as the Idaho Transportation Department, has application forms for the Idaho Wild Rivers plate.

For information on the "Non-Motorized Boat Registration" go to the News tab above.  During the upcoming election, ask the candidates in your districs, what their stand is on this.

Annual Safety Saturday Event

August 16, Saturday (of course) 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

Join us on the Main Payette river for a day of safety education! We have been holding this event each year in town with the last few years at the AIRE factory. We moved it to the river, three years ago  to be more effective. If you have attended the previous Safety Saturday events and tried your hand at throwing a rope in the pond then come up and test your skill throwing to a real swimmer in a rapid! As you float the river on Saturday stop at each station and and practice your skill.  This event is free and open to the public!

We need volunteers to help especially if you are experienced at any particular safety skill. E-mail me at boicatr@fiberpipe.net .

It is over for another year ........................

Non-Motorized Boat Registration is over for another year

The non-motorized boat registration committee meet on 17 July 20008 to review the needs of the various state agencies, local Search and Rescue groups and the whitewater community.  At the conclusion of the meeting there was not a consensus to make a recommendation.  There was an August 15th deadline for new draft legislation.  Since everyone felt that they would not make the deadline, nothing will go to the legislature this year.

It does not mean that the issue is gone completely.  The committee will continue to meet througout the rest of the year.

For copies of the documents that were at the last meeting, go to the RIVER NEWS tab.

Payette River Boating Access Improvement

The Boise National Forest, Forest Service and the Four Rivers Field Office, Bureau of Land Management are teaming up to make a number of improvements at two river access sites along the Payette River beginning next week.

Preparations for paving the parking area at Banks Access, the launch site at Banks, Idaho that is across the Payette River from the Banks Store and Café, began over the last couple of weeks and it will be paved next week beginning on July 14, 2008. The parking area will be unavailable for parking during the paving operations with the goal to make the parking available again by the weekend on July 19th, 2008. The Forest Service is requesting patience from local residents and boaters as we accomplish the goal of paving the entire parking lot to provide for a safer and more effective weekend visit for the boaters.

Current plans call for parking lines and marked paths for drive-through boat launch operations to be added after the pavement has setup for about 30 days.
Improvements are also planned for the Beehive Bend river access site including increasing the drying slab for rafters, improving the access at the bottom of the launch ramp, improving the accessible trail and its access to the launch ramp, as well as the installation of an entrance sign.    (click here for full story)
